City Overview

Did you hear that Money magazine named our little slice of heaven, Chanhassen (also known as Chan-Happenin), the best place to live in the whole U.S. back in 2021? Yeah, we’ve got some big claims to fame, like being home to Paisley Park, where the legendary Prince spent his final years. Since his passing, Paisley Park turned into a museum, drawing in fans from across the globe who want to pay their respects to the Purple One and soak in some music history.

But let me tell you, Chanhassen isn’t just about Prince. We have a whole lot more to offer. Its just a 30-minute hop from downtown Minneapolis, with solid public transit options like buses and soon-to-be-installed light rail systems. And if you’re into nature, our parks, trails and lakes are second to none.

Parks

Take Lake Ann Park, for instance. It’s the gem of our community, sprawling over 102 acres with ball fields, a beach, and rolling hills. The lake is a no-wake lake so its perfect for getting out the paddle board or kayak.  Then there’s Lake Susan Park, perfect for boating and fishing, with trails around the lake and a playground for the kiddos.

Size and Location

With a population hovering around 26,000, Chanhassen offers that small-town vibe while still being close enough to the action. Its split between Carver and Hennepin counties. Covering about 20 square miles of land and 3 square miles of water, there is plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the scenery. Getting around couldn’t be easier, thanks to highways 212, 41, and 5, which link up with the rest of the Greater Minneapolis–St. Paul area.

As for schools, there are some top-notch options right here in Chanhassen. Eastern Carver County School District 112 and Minnetonka School District 276 both get wonderful reviews, offering personalized learning, language immersion programs and plenty of opportunities for kids to excel.

Entertainment

When it’s time to hit the town, head over to the main business district on W. 78th Street. Dress to impress for a night out at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, or swing by Lotus Lake Gifts for some locally-made treasures. And don’t even get me started on the dining scene. From classic chains to independent gems like Kai’s Sushi and Tequila Butcher, there’s something to satisfy every craving.

So yeah, Money magazine might have put us on the map, but those of us lucky enough to call Chanhassen home already knew we were living in paradise.
